The Gatherings
There have been six informal gatherings centered around a noon lunch or an evening desert. These are a few photos of just one of them.
Why this project is so important to me.

I want to tell you a couple of reasons that this church and this project are so important to me. We joined this congregation in August 1981, when Janaan and I moved to Las Cruces. We did not look anywhere else, we just knew that this would be our church home. We got involved in the activities here almost immediately, and found ourselves making many of our best friends in this church. We went to Marriage Encounter at the urging of many of them, and built on our relationship. Our daughter Miriam was baptized here, both our daughters were confirmed here, and both of them are members of Peace now. This church and this congregation, all of you are our family. We have other family in town, but quite frankly we are closer to many of you than to most of them. When Janaan was sick, the outpouring of prayers, meals, hugs, and concern from you was overwhelming. After she died, you took care of us, with more meals, and prayers and hugs, and concern. You have continued to nurture me, to care for me, and to show your love for me. I cannot ever repay you enough for that.
So why is this project important? Obviously I believe that what we do here, especially for each other is vitally important. I told many people that I do not know how anyone can go through the loss of a family member like we did, without the care and concern of group of people like you. But I also believe that we need to show to the community that we are a vibrant and living family of believers. Part of that is demonstrated in the care that we show for this home. Parts of this building are approaching 50 years old and have had little done to them since they were built. As our mission here has changed, I believe that we need to change parts of this home to better meet the goals of this family. I believe that we need to change things to better serve this community of believers and the community at large. And I believe that what we are attempting to do will enhance our worship experience while continuing to provide a warm and welcoming experience to visitors and guests.
